History:
In 1957, after nearly twenty years of experience in the typesetting industry, John Verschoof ventured out on his own, at the age of 37, and opened Superior Typesetting Services in Kalamazoo. Due to his acute attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile for customers, STS became the local source for expertise in hot metal type.
The advent of desktop publishing in the ‘80s brought great change to the printing industry. Although traditional hot metal services became somewhat obsolete, there was still a need for experience in typesetting. Superior, with its steady record of solid customer service, transitioned into the desktop publishing arena. STS still helped clients to produce typographically correct pieces (albeit in different ways), but also began producing RC prints and film negatives. The change in the nature of the business precipitated a change of name to Superior Imaging Services, Inc. As customers sought new and different services, and as technology continued to rapidly advance, SIS continued to change to meet the needs of those involved in desktop publishing.
Throughout these years of change, our priorities remain unchanged. We still pay attention to detail, strive to remain knowledgeable, and provide the personal and friendly service our customers have come to expect. We also stand on our foundational principles of honesty and integrity. We believe these priorities are the reason customers from 1957 are still with us!
